Jim Fallon, a neuroscientist, recently began studying the brains of killers and psychopaths. In this TED Talk he discusses how genetics and how certain people are more likely to become killers. Mr. Fallon realized that all of the brains he found to be from killers of psychopaths, they all had damage to their orbital cortex. There is also a gene that can lead people to become killers. An early exposure to intense violence is a known trigger for a continuation of violence. In class we were assigned to In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. One of the prompts asked if murderers were predisposition to kill by nature or if the way they were raised is to blame. It has been proven that some people are more likely/ at risk due to mental illness, but they are more likely to become murderers if they are raised in an environment where violence is deemed acceptable or the norm. Perry had a rougher upbringing, which leads me to think he only killed due to his environment as a kid, while Dick was raised reletively normal, making me think he had a mental health issue.
